Plainview-Old Bethpage Student Earns Prestigious Long Island Scholar-Artist Recognition

Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School student Alana Asuncion has been named a 2026–2027 Long Island Scholar-Artist in recognition of her accomplishments in the visual arts. The honor is presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance and celebrates high school seniors who have demonstrated exceptional talent in the arts while maintaining strong academic achievement.
Alana is one of 40 students representing 32 high schools across Nassau and Suffolk counties selected for this year’s Scholar-Artist Awards. The program recognizes students in five disciplines — Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theater and Visual Arts — with 20 students receiving Scholar-Artist honors and 20 receiving Merit Awards. This year’s recipients represent the 20th class of the program, which has now recognized 800 talented student artists over two decades.
As a Scholar-Artist in the Visual Arts category, Alana will receive a $500 scholarship and be recognized at the 2027 Scholar-Artist Awards Ceremony in spring 2027. She will also be featured by Newsday as part of the recognition during the upcoming school year.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage School District congratulates Alana on this significant achievement and is proud to celebrate her artistic talent and accomplishment.
